Avery County February 3rd Special Election 
On a snowy Tuesday last week in a special election in Avery County, voters failed to pass the measure by 35 votes. The final tally, as certified by the county's Board of Elections, was 1,449 opposed versus 1,414 who supported the measure. (More)
All 2008 Transfer Tax Ballot Initiatives 
On Tuesday, May 6th, 2008, following a course set in November of 2007, citizens in four North Carolina counties - Ashe, Gates, Orange and Tyrrell - resoundingly defeated a proposed real estate transfer tax in Tuesday's primary election. To round out 2008, Polk County and Tyrrell County (for a second time) placed the transfer tax on the November 4th ballot. Again, voters said no in each county---by wide margins. See for yourself: Polk and Tyrrell official results.
All 2007 Transfer Tax Ballot Initiatives 
Last November, 79 percent of voters in 16 counties statewide overwhelmingly said "NO" to a real estate transfer tax. The voters understand that taxing the equity in their homes is a bad idea when government spending is on the rise. Voters across North Carolina realize that homeownership is the result of hard work, personal responsibility and sacrifices. Owning a home is one of the best ways to build wealth and has long been a part of the American Dream.
