Thanks to your phone calls, emails (over 60,000) and letters against the home tax, we were successful in stopping 4 statewide bills that would have allowed a 1% tax on property sellers. We were also successful in stopping 8 counties from gaining outright authority to impose a 1% home tax without voter approval.
But in a last minute deal with counties, the legislature passed a provision in the budget that will allow counties to put a transfer tax on the ballot. In November of 2007, 16 counties across the state put the transfer tax on the ballot. And it was defeated in all 16 counties. Read more about the local campaigns here.
